My mom says that I am too lenient with my daughter. Maybe because she isn’t with me, so whenever we are together, I try to make her happy. I mean, I wouldn’t want to get mad at her if we’re just spending 2 weeks together. But come to think of it, during the first 2 years that I raised her, I wasn’t too strict either. I don’t shout a lot, and I don’t spank her. Except for a couple of times that I did smack her bottom for being too bratty.
My mom tells me I shouldn’t feel that I don’t have the right to discipline my child just because am not the one raising her right now. I guess what my mom means is that I should still have authority, so that when the time comes that Sab gets to live with us, she won’t boss me around and will still have that respect for me as her mother.
I think my mom is right. I guess it’s just because that I am meek by nature (it’s just not that obvious since I’m outgoing and talkative). By meek I mean that I don’t like being a nag, and I hate having to shout. In fact, I won’t shout unless you’re probably a whole mountain away from me, even if I’m super mad, I still won’t. Am just not that type. I don’t like spanking my kids either. But still, if there is a need to spank, I will, and only for the sake of discipline and not one that I believe should be done on a regular basis.
