how to get your own domain name

i would like to thank yuuki and sweetseoul for giving me an idea for a new post. since most of us here are online or internet addicts (if i may say so), let me tell you a little something about getting your own domain. by little, i mean little. i’m not really much of a techie person but i do know a little something about the internet and the basics. so here goes.

you already know what you want your site to be named, and want to get your very own .com or domain name registered. what do you do?

search for a good and reliable domain name registrant or host. i use NAMECHEAP, and all i can say is that the service has been nothing but great (for the past 24 hours anyway). why do i say so? good point #1 – prices are cheap. how so? google has tied up with a domain registrant/host and the price they offer is $10/year. godaddy offers it for $10.69/year. how much did i get mine? $8.81/year (i used a discount coupon for this. it’s supposed to be $9.69) not bad. good point #2 – signing up is a quick and easy process. i tried godaddy, and i kept getting page after page of add-on offers, which is quite tiring, if you ask me. when i tried namecheap, signing up and payment only took me less than 10 minutes. and they accept paypal, too. which makes the entire process speedier. here’s the best part or best point for namecheap — they have the best technical support ever. the site itself is easy to navigate. but for domain dummies like me, the tech support agent that assisted me on how to get my blogspot site assigned to my new .com domain name was my hero for the day. they offer online or live support, so it took me less than an hour to get everything set up and ready to go.
i hope this post helped or somehow enlightened you with the little knowledge that i have in getting your own domain name. for more questions or info, just leave a message and i’ll try answer the best that i can. thanks!

@ kuroky: actually, i have wanted my own domain because it gives more "oomph" to a website.for almost $9, i can say i own my own website name di ba? and some advertisers actually prefer yung may sariling domain. don't know why. haha. for me it's more of kaartehan rather than something beneficial, although my bubby tells me magiging beneficial din to sakin in the long run. di ko lang maintindihan ineexplain nya sakin. ahaha!
