Ever since we attended an event about Homeschooling we’ve been inclined to introduce it to our little one. We’re starting off with Math since according to her Developmental Pediatrician, she’s very much advanced with Reading and Communication (First Grade level at the age of 2.5).

Aside from the usual addition subtraction, we will also incorporate money into our lessons. We’re looking at getting some coins and bills that we could use just for our learning. It would be great if we could get something personalized too so it can also be a keepsake of our homeschooling adventure. For now, we’ll be using whatever we find at home as well as printing out other materials from the internet.

We’ll let you know how it goes. Hopefully I can get a curriculum online that would aid us in this journey. But since math can be incorporated in almost anything, I’m crossing my fingers that this will be a breeze.

There were times when we’d see a floating chlorine dispenser when we got there. He got accustomed to having his pool cleaned frequently just to make sure that the pool would be clean any time we’d come for a swim.

As early as now, I want my daughter to learn how to save. I believe at her age of 3, she now understands the value of money. Why do I think she understands? First, I’m teaching her numbers; from 1 to 999 (but she’s only comfortable until 199 so far) and sometimes she tries to read out numbers in the thousands. Since she can read the numbers, I explain to her why we buy, or don’t buy for that matter, toys that she calls out for when we go the mall to let her know what expensive and reasonable means.

Because of this, we also want her to learn how to save for things she wants to buy for herself. We’ve tried to buy her piggy banks but she just isn’t into the whole “piggy” thing. For this reason, we’re looking into getting personalised money boxes for all of us so she knows that we all try to save up for something we want to buy for ourselves or just to save up for the future.

What better time than now to teach her about money when she received some money gifts from her Godparents last Christmas, right? A great way to boost her counting and saving techniques.

Please forgive me, I’m a little emotional today since it’s my father’s birthday. He would have been 68.

I couldn’t help wonder about a lot of “ifs” today. If only he agreed to have that heart surgery in the late 80s or early 90s, would he still be alive today? If only the technology today was available for him then, would he have made a different decision?

He was told at first that he had 3 blocks in his heart. A cardiac bypass was a big thing back then, and the doctors gave him a not-so-good chance of success (anything less than 95%-5% ratio of success-failure for us was not-so-good). If he were alive today, would he have been a great candidate for a minimally invasive heart surgery? By 7 years before he passed. doctors said he had 5 blocks in his heart and they couldn’t do any surgery anymore, also due to his diabetes. So, if only he agreed the first time, would it have made a difference?

I always think about my father’s experience whenever I talk about surgery, or anything about the heart for that matter. When I was pregnant, they also heard some regurgitation and I was advised to see a cardiologist before giving birth. He said it wasn’t too alarming but he wanted to be present during my delivery to make sure there wouldn’t be any complications.

But unlike those times when my father had to make a decision, I’m grateful now that it’s possible to have a more types of procedures that are minimally invasive. If I should need to, I know the success rate is definitely higher and the post-procedure pain will be much tolerable.

After years of waiting, of hoping to bear a child, there I was 7 months pregnant and happy as can be. Coming out from a miscarriage 8 months prior, I really wanted this pregnancy to be perfect and stress-free. But as luck would have it, an almost deadly blow came in the form of Chapter 13 Bankruptcy.

Yes, the company my husband worked for filed for Bankruptcy in the US and he had to close down the operations here. From my 7th to 8th month, I stayed home and read about Bankruptcy. While my husband was handing out clearances, notices, releases and last pay to all his employees, I was reading how to go about Bankruptcy in the US, as well as here in our country. I figured there may be similar steps or processes and I’d rather know about it so we can get this over with as quick as possible. Sadly, we weren’t able to get the help of specialized lawyers here, like those that handle California Bankruptcy, so we had to go around and ask a lot of people for advise, and for free as much as possible.

I think the little baby inside of me was also learning a lot because she cooperated with us and I never had any problems with her. At our 8th month of pregnancy, I even helped clean out their office, carrying stuff from one place to another, loading them in trucks, etc. My doctor said I needed the exercise as long as it isn’t too strenuous because I need to prepare for my delivery. So instead of thinking what would happen to us now because no one in the family had a job, I decided to leave the worries for later.

The thing is, I think that activity of packing things up and shipping them off was some kind of stress reliever for all of us. I know it was supposed to be some kind of reality check for us, but somehow it was therapeutic. It made us face the challenge head on and know that we have to move forward.

And move forward we did. After our little girl was born my husband and I changed a lot in terms of deciding for our future. All my bankruptcy woes were won over by the perfect bundle of joy in my arms. My husband may still have been in pain with what just happened but he knew we were going to be okay.

Everything has its purpose and I don’t know what exactly that experience was for, but I’ m thankful it happened and we won over it. It made us stronger. It made us yearn for more. It made us dream big!
